Poems on grief can provide inspiration and sympathy for those grieving with the loss of a loved one. Many people find their most powerful emotions and feelings are expressed in verse. Sometimes reading a poem can fulfill the role of a eulogy. They are also used in memorial booklets provided at a funeral.

Here are some beautiful pieces of poetry that are used frequently after the loss of a loved one. Please feel free to submit your poetry by using the Share Your Thoughts button. We are always open to new and helpful ways to assist people suffering from grief and loss.

HIS JOURNEY’S JUST BEGUN
Don’t think of him as gone away
His journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets
The earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.

And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much!

Native American Prayer
I give you this
           One thought to keep.
I am with you still.
           I do not sleep...
I am the soft stars
           That shine at night...
Do not think of me as gone
           I am with you still,
In each new dawn...

In one of the stars
I shall be living
In one of them
I shall be laughing
And so it will be
As if all the stars
Where laughing
When you look
At the sky at night

TIME
Time cannot steal the treasures
That we carry in our hearts.
Nor ever dim the shining thoughts
Our cherished past imports
For the memories of the ones we loved
Still cast a gentle glow,
To grace our days and light our paths
Wherever we may go.
