At some point, you may determine the need to seek outside sources to help you with your grief – from a professional counselor to another bereaved parent. Please remember that seeking help does not indicate weakness; but rather it indicates your strength to move through your grief and begin to heal.

Following is a list of various support systems:

  RELIGIOUS
Check with your local congregation for bereavement counselors or request a meeting with your clergy.
  PSYCHOLOGISTS
Check the local yellow pages (also listed under Counselors). Specify that you request grief-related counseling. Also check to see coverage with your insurance policy.
  PSYCHIATRISTS
Your family doctor may be able to recommend a psychiatrist who can prescribe medication if needed. Also check the local yellow pages.
  BEREAVEMENT GROUPS
Check with internet support groups to find a local chapter. Also check with your local hospitals for grief meetings specific to your loss.
  WEBSITES OR INTERNET SUPPORT GROUPS
See page entitled “Grief Resources” for a listing of popular on-line grief related websites. Many sites have on-line chat rooms to share and talk about your grief. A search of your specific grief may result in a specialized site for your needs. Please share your findings under Share Your Thoughts.
  BOOKS
Our "Books" section is currently under development. Many books are written about grief and personal loss. Please share any books that helped you in Share Your Thoughts.
