Many times we are rushed during the planning of a memorial or funeral and forget to collect the memories of our loved ones. Below are some ideas we have collected that we use and others have suggested. Please let us know if you used a special, unique way to collect your memories. We’d love to share them with others.
Monarch Butterflies are beautiful for release at funerals, life celebrations, and burial ceremonies. The butterfly is nature’s ultimate symbol of change, transformation and beauty. Releasing live butterflies for a loved-one is a unique way to honor and remember them.
Create a DVD video tribute with a collage of photos set to music and blended with special effects to capture your loved one’s memories forever. Once compiled, these moving DVD tribute videos can be played during the service to provide a visual reminder, and copies can be distributed after the service for friends and family to watch and remember your loved one.
A photo collage is a perfect way to honor a loved one. Photos of their life reflect your loved one’s memory, personality and spirit, and many times, these photos will be viewed by your guests for the first time. Photo collages not only compliment the service but become a valued family heirloom.
Favorite Food or Recipe
Food is a wonderful way to remember a loved one. Set out plate of their favorite dishes, snacks or sweets, or provide one for each guest along with your loved one’s favorite recipe. Forever, they will cherish that food and remember.
Candles provide a bright light during a grieving families’ darkest hour. When placed in a funeral setting, the candles add a personal touch that will remain in the minds of the mourners long after their grief has passed. Use store purchased candles or make your own personalized ones (instructions on Personalized Mementos).
Personalized River Rocks
Have your guests write their names and a brief message on round river rocks. Display on a table or put them into a large vase or basket. We utilized our signature rocks into a stepping stone in a memorial garden (see Personalized Mementos for instructions), or you can place them around the headstone at the grave. It reminds you of all who love and remember.
Signature Picture Frames
A frame not only holds one of your favorite photos, but can double as a guest book alternative, allowing all your friends and family to sign their names and loving thoughts on the mat.
Bookmarks are very easy to make on your computer. Utilize a photo of your loved one and include a quote or brief description of their life. You can print on colored paper and have them laminated. Pass them out during the service.
