A final Eulogy is a way
to express grief, to say goodbye and to recount memorable events in the deceased’s
life. Everyone who is gone has contributed to our lives and it is fitting to publicly
proclaim these facts as well as remember them.
This helps mourners for it tends to promote more intimate, individualized meaning
to the ceremony itself. Many times, the mourners will informally share their memories.
Some areas to consider when
writing the Eulogy:
- What connection do you
have with the deceased and why are you speaking?
- Religious beliefs
- Family of deceased –
was he or she particularly close with any one person?
- Name, age, career history
- How they died
- Personality, talents
and hobbies
- Habits they were known
for
- Commitments to organizations,
fraternities, political, church
- Did you do something
with them?
- What was your relationship
with the deceased and what do you want to say about them.
Have you heard a particularly
moving Eulogy? Was there a style that worked well? Please share any thoughts, experiences
or tips you have to help others write a more meaningful Eulogy for their loved one
